I'd seen photographs of Hutt Lagoon but nothing prepared me for the reality of it. The colours don't look real because they're produced by algae, nature doing something that looks entirely man-made.
The boundary between the two bodies of water becomes the whole image. Blush pink on one side, deep burgundy on the other, and between them a layered mineral shoreline of salt crystals, amber and dark earth that ripples like a fingerprint. Western Australia at its most alien and extraordinary.
